Our fine Bone China Mugs
All of our lovely mugs are made in the UK in Stoke-on-Trent and are made of fine bone china which is considered the finest material for any wares.
Fine bone china is far lighter and thinner than thicker, heavy earthenware and porcelain however it remains just as strong.
The designs are first made into water slide transfers, by the method of silk screen printing - we chose screen printing over digital printing as it is still far superior regarding boldness and longevity of colours.
Each colour within the design is printed onto a gummed paper - one colour at a time the design is slowly created - each and every colour within the design has to be separated from each other. Once all the colours have been printed and the design is complete, it is then covered with a glue to finally create the water slide transfer.
This water slide transfer is then soaked in water until it separates from the paper it was printed on and the transfer is then hand applied/decorated on to the mugs to make sure all water and air bubbles are removed from between the transfer and the surface to ensure a perfectly sealed fit.
The mugs are then carefully placed into the kiln and fired at a temperature of 800 degrees, allowing the glaze to soften and the screen printed transfers to permanently adhere to the mugs which then allows them too be completely dishwasher and microwave safe.
All this is done with great care, skill and attention to create the highest quality mugs by Finsbury China who are also based in Stoke-on-Trent.
