WASHING FINE BONE CHINA

Nothing beats drinking a cup of tea from Fine Bone China. The taste is enhanced, the temperature remains hotter, ensuring the perfect cup of tea . To keep our china looking its best and that includes the quality of taste, it is recommended to wash quickly after use and not to use scouring pads and/or abrasive detergents. Leaving tea stained mugs longer than is necessary may cause discolouration.

REMOVING STAINS WITHOUT CHEMICALS

A well loved mug can often get stained - especially with dark liquids like many teas and coffee. There's no need to use intense chemical cleaners as most stains can be removed by soaking the item in warm water before washing. We have found that hand cleaning your mug as soon as possible is the best way to avoid staining. Using bicarbonate of soda also works as does soaking a slice of lemon in boiled water, or having a mug of hot orange squash. An alternative is a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, water and vinegar. Simply pour 1 tablespoon of baking soda into your mug. Make a solution of 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of warm water and pour this into the mug (make sure it covers all of the stained area). Let this soak for a good two hours or so and then rinse, You can let it sit for longer if needed or give it a gentle scrub at the end with a cloth.

WASHING IN A DISHWASHER

It is perfectly safe to wash your Fine Bone China in an automatic dishwasher – as long as you adhere to the following guidelines. Load the washer so that pieces do not touch each other, to avoid the risk of scratching. Do not overload. Do not exceed a temperature of 40ºC (104ºF) when washing fine chinaware in the dishwasher. Use only the 'gentle,' 'short wash' or 'china and crystal' cycle. Use a very gentle detergent; some of the eco-detergents are a better choice than the stronger dishwashing powders and tablets. As soon as the wash water has drained away, there should be an immediate rinse cycle to flush away deposits of detergent, which will form a film if allowed to dry on the fine bone china.

HEATING YOUR FINE BONE CHINA?

It is safe to warm your fine bone china and fine china plates in the warming compartment of your oven up to 65C (150F). Never place china in contact with a direct flame or subject it to extreme temperature change. Katie’s fine bone china is safe to use in a microwave but always take care not to leave it heating in a microwave for a prolonged period. Always be aware that any china with gold or metallic detailing should not be heated in a microwave.

HARD WATER

In hard water areas, deposits may form on your china over a period if the water is allowed to dry on the product. These soluble deposits can easily be removed with a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. If you live in an area of hard water using a water softener also assists in keeping your china perfect as well as your glasses crystal clear.

DURABILITY

Our Fine Bone China products are very durable and when properly cared for, will last for many years. It is recommended not to subject Fine Bone China to extreme temperature changes - it is best to place a conducting agent (teaspoon or milk) into your mug prior to pouring boiling water into it. It is safe to warm your fine bone china plates in the warming compartment of your oven up to 40°C (104°F). Never place china in contact with a direct flame or subject it to extreme temperature change. Fine bone china should not be used for cooking purposes. Fine Bone China is not suitable for use in the freezer.

STORING FINE BONE CHINA

Avoid storing fine bone china directly on top of each other, as this may scratch the surface. Ideally store in plate dividers separating each plate. Do not slide plates out from the bottom of the stack; always lift them from the top.

ENJOY EVERYDAY

Our china ware is made for everyday use. All new patterns are put through an exhaustive series of tests to ensure that colours are as hard wearing as possible. Quality checks are constantly carried out to monitor the ability of the ware to resist the rigors of day-to-day use.

WASHING OUR TEA TOWELS

To keep our fabrics looking their best it recommended to launder as is necessary. Leaving it longer than necessary may cause discolouration of the design and a tendency to wash at a high heat!. We recommend that all fabrics, that can be washed, are separated into light or dark colours and washed at 30-40 degrees (depending on the care instructions - see below). For best results, select a non-biological detergent containing no optical whiteners, bleaching agents or enzymes that can cause colours to fade or become patchy and can also damage fabrics. When hand washing, do not place the detergent directly onto the laundry, but ensure liquids are dispersed and powders completely dissolved before immersing the items to be washed.

DRYING

Line drying is ideal for leaving your laundry outdoor-fresh and almost crease-free...but using a tumble dryer at the correct setting also gives good results. When using a tumble dryer, do not over dry laundry and remove it promptly to reduce creasing.

FADING

Some degree of fading of colour will occur naturally over time

SHRINKAGE

All natural fibres will shrink. However, washing or drying fabrics at excessively hot temperatures will cause more shrinkage than usual.

CARE SYMBOL GUIDE

All fabrics carry care instruction labels showing the universal symbols. Please refer to these labels and always follow the care instructions given.
