    Sneak peak..
Having nearly de-cluttered all my summer clothes by mistake – (I haven’t worn any of these for ages!  Surely they must go!) we did then get some proper hot weather. I enjoy this except for the rate it makes my pond disappear.  It seems to dry it up very quickly.  Although it doesn’t get really dry, thank goodness, because very recently I discovered I had a couple of frogs in there.  A friend had illegally given me two tadpoles the year before last and I had forgotten all about them until they turned up as frogs!

I was so excited.  One evening I heard a proper plop into the water, heard them making their noise.  (No, not at all like ribbit ribbit – more like how a comb would sound if you drew your nail along it.). This was topped when I saw one coming up to the surface and putting its nose above the water.  I was in heaven.  I used to have frogs years ago but the newts seemed to take over.

Just as I was looking forward to sitting in the quiet in the evening listening and watching for them I realised that frogs leave the ponds in July.  Will mine be making their way back to the pond where they were spawned?  Will they get there?

While we were having some quite hot weather, I was writing about London in winter, in the 60s.  Not very cosy!  This is my latest novel From London with Love, which is the fourth and final book in the series that started with my three girls who met at cookery school, and is coming in February 2025. This is about Felicity, one of the children Alexandra encountered in A Wedding in Provence.  She is now 19 and studying in London.  She is living with her mother (who didn’t bring her up) and they both share a house in the iconic Cheyne Walk, right by the river.  I always wanted to live there when I was a little girl growing up in nearby Kensington.

In the flat at the top of the house lives Violet, who is thirty, and has her own adventure.  I’m hope I’m not giving away too much if I say the book involves mudlarking and archaeology as well some very romantic moments.

I do hope you all enjoy the rest of the summer, and if you’ve already been away and feel there’s nothing to look forward to, there’s always Bake Off which starts very soon.  Although maybe I shouldn’t watch it.  It always makes me want to eat lots of cake.
    With much love,

    Katie x
